Mama Diam

This is a very interesting concept restaurant.  I'm not talking about the 'hidden-behind-some-disguise' kind of concept coz quite a few restaurants in Singapore has that kind of concept.  I'm referring to the food.  It's east meets west meets old school with a twist that kind of excites me.

Walking along Prinsep Street, you definitely would not miss this interesting entrance.  The first sight that greets you is the void deck mama shop kind of scene. Brings back lots of childhood memories. They even have the hopscotch game on the ground which we used to draw with chalk.  Ask the service staff nicely and they might allow you into the "shop" for your IG photos.

Sliding the bookshelf leads you to another totally different space. The instant transformation takes you into the eat, drink and be merry kind of surrounding.  Quite cool, I must say!

After sliding away the bookshelf, you will need to walk through a very short walkway to reach your destination. But what greeted us was this old traditional chinese signboard right on top of the bar.

Drinks and food Menu can be found on their website.  Some drinks are seasonal thus you will notice their menu changes.  Just like ISO, they have various versions.  Check out our drinks and yummy food...

Chai Tarik Brew  ($18)
Naked Malt Whisky, Butterscotch, Pulled Milk Tea

Sng Muay Fizz ($18)
Belvedere Vodka, Aperol, Local Plums, Orange Cordial, Soda

Sound of Spring ($22)
Roku Gin, Chuga Plum Soju, Strawberry shrub, Lemon, egg white

Emperor Herbal Chicken Poached Rice ($20)
Pan seared chicken thigh, seasoned rice, herbal chicken broth, puffed white rice, fried egg floss

Scallop Blossom ($19)
Aburi Hokkaido Scallops, Honey Mango Salsa, Citrus Coconut with Roku dressing

Claypot Vegetarian Mushroom Mee Tai Mak ($14)
Wok fried rice pin noodle, shitake mushroom, shimeji mushroom, cabbage

Laksa Chee Cheong Fun ($16)
Handmade rice rolls, prawn beancurd skin roll, iberico pork ngo hiang, quail egg, sambal chilli

Stuffed Seafood Lychee ($15)
Finely chopped prawns, lychee, charcoal batter, citrus mayo, tobiko

My favorite is the Herbal chicken dish. You can really taste the herbs thought subtle. My next favorite is the seafood lychee.  You can really see and taste the lychee fruit and it's not in tiny bits.  One ball fits nicely into my mouth.  Love it!

Even the really sporting host is dressed up like the surrounding.

We were given retro packs to end our meal.  The pack consist of 1 eraser (that we used to buy when younger) and 1 tube of bubble balloon.

Check out the transformation from your familiar neighbourhood mama shop to a bar within.

Message from the owner: Don't judge a store by its front!

It's really a good place to chill after work.  To avoid disappointments, it's best that you make reservations before turning up. You can do it here.
